About BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was founded in 1980 as the political successor to the Jana Sangh. From a modest beginning, it has grown into one of India's principal political movements, with a presence in every region of the country. The party is inspired by nationalist ideals, rooted in India's civilisational heritage and democratic values.

Over the decades, the BJP has played a key role in shaping governance and public policy, championing good administration, development-oriented politics and national security. The party believes in strengthening institutions of democracy and enabling every citizen to participate in India's growth story.

Philosophy

Hindutva or Cultural Nationalism represents the BJP's understanding of Indian nationhood. It is a cultural and civilisational idea that sees India as a shared heritage for all its people, and not as a theocratic or exclusionary concept. It emphasises unity in diversity and respect for all faiths and communities.

Integral Humanism – 'Dharma Sustains Society'

Integral Humanism, articulated by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, is one of the guiding philosophies of the BJP. It stresses a balanced approach to material progress and spiritual values, and places the individual, society and nature at the centre of development. The idea seeks to ensure that growth is both inclusive and sustainable.
